Scrypt Intermediate

Scrypt is the hashing algorithm used by Litecoin and Dogecoin, originally designed to be memory-intensive and therefore harder to specialise.

The intention was to resist ASICs by demanding significant memory alongside computation. Scrypt ASICs were eventually built anyway, so the practical outcome today is simply a separate hardware market from SHA-256.

Because Litecoin and Dogecoin share Scrypt, they are commonly merge-mined together.

This definition is educational and not financial advice. Crypto is volatile and high-risk — always do your own research.
