Difficulty Adjustment Intermediate

A difficulty adjustment is the scheduled recalibration that keeps block times near their target as hashrate changes.

Bitcoin adjusts every 2,016 blocks, roughly every two weeks, comparing how long those blocks actually took against the ten-minute target and correcting accordingly.

Adjustments are why a mining profitability projection that holds difficulty constant is optimistic by construction: over any long horizon, difficulty has trended upward.

This definition is educational and not financial advice. Crypto is volatile and high-risk — always do your own research.
